THE ARMED GANG
With one legendary album released in the early 80’s, THE ARMED GANG is one of the very few non-American music projects to be internationally recognized and appreciated as authentically funky. A unique sound able to remain brilliant and powerful in the years unitil today.
“I founded The Armed Gang project in 1979, with my great friend Flavio Botta, in art “Bottmann”, following our great passion for funky and soul music.
I choose that name to symbolize a strong and powerful musical style, of which the notes were the “weapons”.
I consider this project musically powerful and iconic like few others of this genre. The song “Funky fever” is among the most “funky” ever written.
I’m so proud that today it’s a cult of funky music.”
The musical genre of THE ARMED GANG is in funky, electronic funky, dance and black music, with strong soul and R&B influences. All the songs are characterized by a strong presence of bass and funky guitar, always played by Sangy.
The Armed Gang has been founded in 1982 by the italian composers, arrangers, and players SANGY (Maurizio Sangineto) and Bottmann (Flavio Botta), friends since they were young boys.
The first release, in 1982, has been the single “All I want”, sung as special guest by Jay Rolandi (Rolando Zaniolo) of the FIREFLY, another SANGY’s production.
This production was immediately appreciated in USA where it was released on Chaz Ro label, remixed in New York by Chris Scott, Herbert Csasznik and Tony Valor at the Sigma Sound Studios.
This production signs the beginning of the collaboration with Sandy Dian, very talented italian sound engineer, at his RG Studio.
In 1984 has been released the first album “THE ARMED GANG”, become legendary for funky music fans around the world.
